Rockingham Pantomime

Rockingham Pantomime

Today, the children were treated to a wonderful pantomime experience which combined fun, laughter, and lots of learning. The performance explored the history of pantomime, helping the children to understand where this much-loved tradition comes from and how it has changed over time. They discovered that pantomimes actually originated in Italy, before becoming a popular feature of British theatre.

As well as learning about the historical background, the children explored the key themes of pantomime – from larger-than-life characters and slapstick comedy to audience participation and colourful costumes. There were plenty of laughs along the way, especially when some of the teachers joined in and dressed up to take part. It was a truly enjoyable experience that left the children buzzing with excitement while also giving them a deeper understanding of theatre and cultural history.
